Week 4

Busy week, or so it seemed, yet not as many things crossed off my to-do list as I’d prefer.  Oh for the magic stopwatch, so I could put the world on pause while I lay out a plan of attack…

I’m sporting a fresh haircut that doesn’t leave me with that ‘Bride of Frankenstein’ look each morning.  I have a cleaner kitchen and 6 containers of soup, beans, and spaghetti sauce ready to heat-n-eat.  My calendar is up to date, though not my task list (I’m not really satisfied with Google’s Task solution, but finding & setting up another will take time).   The lovely idea of conquering 3 new habits every 30 days has faded into the mist – best wishes to those who are sticking with it.

As for the important things – health is steady, assignments are getting done, confidence in interpreting is increasing (as long as I don’t attempt to manage Car Talk’s 3-way jabbering), there’s enough in the checkbook to pay this month’s bills, and a part time job that will put a little money back in.  My neighbor and I are making more progress on our Bible study than is evidenced on the Walkthrough site, and the pace is bringing some insights that I’m sure I’d have missed in a different format.

On another note, there have been several additions to the prayer list this week.  An accident in a nearby town claimed the lives of 3 ladies and left the driver a widower at age 87 – the driver and his late wife are related to one of my instructors.  Another staff member was added to the list of those suddenly losing immediate family, as was a person from my home church.  Someone decided to shoot a beloved family pet with a BB gun – the pet is recovering, but still.  There are families reeling from the unexpected this week, as everywhere of course, and there are others who are continuing to deal with ongoing issues and the question of whether there’s light at the end of the tunnel (and whether that light’s on the front of a rolling train engine).

Meanwhile, it has also been a week of giving thanks.  There’s a new baby in the world, and another on the way – both babies & moms are healthy as of last report.  At least one potential highway accident didn’t occur, the results of which would have been disastrous and added to an astonishing list of tragedies in one family.  These are only the protections and provisions we can see – there’s no telling what else God is doing on our behalf, every moment of every day.  Have you thanked Him today?
