Your quilt comes with a few lessons… seems several of them do these days. See WP2, RCP, and TJG.

The first is, something can have perfect love and imperfect execution. Your quilt would look better if I had a bit more time to rip it apart & start over or if I’d spent decades in practicing the art of perfectly aligned stars. The love’s there, we’ll go with that.

The second lesson dovetails into it… enough. I went to find back & batting for your quilt. I got excited to have just the right amount of blue fabric if I sewed together coordinating pieces. Then for batting… it’s important not to mix different filler in one quilt. There’s also some Old Testament law about not mixing fabrics…thankfully Jesus satisfied the law on our behalf.

I had one large piece of batting and a few scraps that might be the same stuff. I was getting ready to check with a local fabric shop, but how much would I need?? I laid the layers together and to my pleasant surprise, the one piece was precisely enough. There’s really no margin for error.

The third lesson? He does that. It’s not that we should be careless or entitled, by any means. But it’s good, and a joy-developing exercise, to notice  and give thanks when the Creator of the Universe and Savior of Humanity chooses to join you in a project. This isn’t the first time, by far, that He’s helped me on something as un-eternal as baby quilts.

What He asks of us is straightforward. He knows full well that we are limited & marred by our humanity. He asks for perfect love, not perfect execution. He satisfied His law’s demands Himself on our behalf – He is enough. He takes a loving Father’s joy in coming alongside His children, even in small surprising ways.
