Matrix and Other Movies

I finally watched Matrix last night – interesting – more because the NT Prof, McCabe, used it as a reference for defining sin and how permeating it is, and how comfortable it is for those who have not been introduced to the real world and its freedom. It was even said that some of the people, especially those over a certain age, would fight tooth-n-nail to maintain their comfort in the familiar world, unenlightened, and that every person who was not among the free was an enemy, potentially an active force for the opposing side. Not that the introduction to the real world was easy, or totally welcome, and yet… he simply had to choose between a red pill in one hand, or a blue pill in the other. Once his choice was made and committed to, an irreversible cycle started which included astonishing revelation, pain, then training. It was not he who actively pursued this cycle of change, but his mentors who had gone through it before. Part of his training was learning to think differently than ever before and to act on those new thoughts… he was both cared for and challenged by his new mentors, who then sacrificed themselves for his sake and for the sake of the greater good… and when he finally believed the new definition of himself, he almost naturally accomplished the impossible. The goal of the free people is twofold – bring as many others to freedom as they could reach while maintaining their own safety and freedom. The goal of the establishment is to continue (or restore) the compliant slavery of all.

Interesting movie, especially when viewed with a pre-selected frame of reference…

Meanwhile, I also watched Final Cut with Robin Williams…also interesting…especially when you get into the interviews on the DVD extras… this is one I’m considering adding to my library…

Then there was Benjamin Button…intriguing, and worthy of the acclaim it got – I was curious how they’d pull off ‘born at 80, died at zero’, but they managed, most creatively…

and all three of these handled sex & death with discretion – it can still be done, encouraging!!
